I am a uh wound care physician, a general surgeon by training, but I have been practicing wound care for 15 years in Syracuse New York. Virtually all chronic wounds have biofilm and this is what is keeping them open and not allowing them to heal in the usual fashion. Good wound care requires a two sided approach. On the one hand, we have to control biofilm. And on the other hand, we have to support wound healing with purely AM, we can do both with the same product. We are controlling the biofilm with PHMB. While we are supporting the wound healing with the native two layer ECM PHMB is a broadly studied powerful antimicrobial. It's a polymer that is positively charged and attracts the negatively charged phospholipid within the bacterial wall, causing the bacterial wall to disrupt eventually salve the positive charge of PHMB will attack if you will the negatively charged phospholipids of the bacterial membrane and destroy it. This is what makes Phmb a broad spectrum antimicrobial. What I like about PHMB is that I don't have to worry about cytotoxicity. The AC M in purely AM is a two layer Crosslin collagen. This cross link is what gives purply am the resistance to enzymatic degradation. The presence of the native two layer ECM in pure apply AM will quench those M MP S and uh give the M MP S something to break down while living alone, the patient's own extracellular matrix to do its job of wound healing purely am comes in different sizes. So we can use it from very small wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers to very large wounds. Typically from surgery, it is very satisfying to have a patient come back and express to you how happy they are because of the progress their wound has made. Um We see these patients for weeks and weeks and weeks and when you finally nail it and you know, you, you undress the wound a week later and you see the wound and the patient sees the wound and you're like, wow, it got that smaller in just a week. You know, everybody wins. Published October 22, 2024 Created by
